Nature of request
John Botiller states that when William Orwell and others in the town of Calais, named in a schedule attached to this petition, rose up against Henry V on 2 August in his eighth year [1420], as is explained in another schedule, because he complained to the King and council, seeking a remedy, Lewis John, Robert Cristemas and other confederates of theirs in London seized him in January in the late King's ninth year [1422], and wrongly imprisoned him. He asks that the [Duke of Gloucester] and others of the council might have power, by authority of parliament, to send for William Orwell and the others from Calais, and also for Lewis John, Robert Cristemas, and the others from London, to appear before the council and [answer them on these matters]. He also requests justice.

Dated on the guard to the early years of Henry Vi's reign with reference to the events of 8 and 9 Henry V, and further to '? 1427' with reference to the petitions in PRO 31/7/117. This dating is confirmed by the mention of William Alnwick, who was Bishop of Norwich between 1426 and 1436.
