Description
Petitioners
William Burton, Yeoman Usher of the Prince of Wales' Chamber.
Name(s)
Burton, William
Addressees
King.
Occupation
Yeoman Usher of the Prince of Wales' Chamber
Nature of request
William Burton states that he was instrumental in recovering for the King a rent called the fee of Chokes, pertaining to Northampton castle, and that as a reward, the King granted him 100s. a year from this rent for term of life. This sum has been annulled by the act of resumption in the present parliament: he asks the king to grant him the rent at farm, receiving again the 100s himself: and gives a form of letters patent by which the King might do this.
Nature of endorsement
[None]
Places mentioned

Lincolnshire
Leicestershire
Westminster.
People mentioned
[Edward of Lancaster], Prince of Wales
[Margaret of Anjou], Queen of England.
Note
CPR 1452-61 p.288 is dated 9 March 1456. The petitioner says that the grant was revoked in an act of resumption in the present parliament, and afterwards says that this was the one held at Westminster in the King's thirty-third year: ie. that which began in July 1455, and was prorogued to 12 November 1455, and then to 14 January 1456. The date of the grant would suggest that this petition was submitted towards the end of this parliament: and this is confirmed by the fact that it is clearly in response to the endorsement of SC 8/96/4766A, also presented to this parliament.CPR 1452-61 p.76 is dated 5 June 1453. The exemption found in Rot. Parl. vol. V p.197b is from the parliament of 1449-1450, and would seem to be for an earlier grant to the petitioner.
