Nature of request
John Bray and Thomas Coky, formerly Bailiffs of Northampton, state that in 7 Henry V two prisoners in their keeping, William More and Ralph Freman, escaped, and that this was afterwards acknowledged before the coroners of Northampton, and before William Babyngton and Thomas Waldeby, commissioners to inquire into escape of felons in Northamptonshire; and the petitioners paid £10 for this escape. But because of a discrepancy in the dates between the record of the coroners and the record of the commissioners, the Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer, thinking that there were two escapes, issued a scire facias for the petitioners to answer for the second escape, and, when they defaulted, began a process against them and the town for another £10. They request that if it can be ascertained by inquisition or otherwise that there was only one escape, and that the £10 has been paid, that the Treasurer and Barons might cease demanding the secodn £10 from them.

Dated on the guard to '? 1426' without explanation. The written hand and general appearance of the petition makes this date plausible.
