Nature of request
The Abbot and convent of Burton-upon-Trent state that a plea between them and Thomas, Earl of Lancaster, concerning whether they should find a tithingman for the wapentake of Wirksworth, was halted by his death, and that the King's ministers have since continued to distrain them for this tithingman, and for an amercement of £16 incurred in the case. They do not agree that they should find a tithingman for this wapentake, and request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.Certain people are to be appointed to inquire into the truth of the things contained in this petition, and, when the inquisition has been returned in Chancery, the Chancellor, summoning to him the members of the council, is to do justice. And the Treasurer and Barons are to be ordered to cease demanding the £16 in the meantime.
