SC 8/95/4733
Date
[1322]
Description
Petitioners
William de la Beche (Beech); Euphemia de la Beche, wife of William de la Beech, one of the heirs of Edmund Comyn of Kilbride; Harvey de Stanton (Staunton), guardian of Mary, sister of Euphemia, the other heir.
Name(s)
Beche (Beech); Beche; de Stanton (Staunton), William; Euphemia; Harvey
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The petitioners state that after the death of Edmund Comyn, his lands and tenements in Fakenham Aspes were taken into the King's hand, because it was found by inquisition that he had alienated lands and tenements without permission of the King; but the people with whom he had enfeoffed these lands and tenements sued in Chancery to have charters to hold of the King, thus depriving Edmund Comyn's heirs of their rent. They petitioned the last parliament at York for justice, and a writ was sent to the escheator to inquire into the truth of the matter. The inquisition has now been returned, and they ask that, when it has been examined in council, a remedy might be ordained for them, so that they might receive their inheritance in full, as ordained by the Great Charter.
Nature of endorsement
Coram magno consilio. The inquisition is to be brought before the council.
Places mentioned
Kilbride, [Lanarkshire, Scotland]
Fakenham Aspes manor, [Suffolk]
York.
People mentioned
Edmund Comyn of Kilbride
Mary [Comyn], sister of Euphemia de la Beche.
Note
This petition is quoted in SC 8/173/8629 as having been presented to the parliament at York. As it mentions a petition presented to the previous parliament at York, it would seem to belong to the parliament of November 1322. The inquisition post mortem for Edmund Comyn (CIPM, vol. VI, no. 265) proves that he died in 1321.
