Reference
SC 8/95/4731
Date
[1316-1327]
Description
Petitioners
John Bussh (Bush), clerk.
Name(s)
Bussh (Bush), John
Addressees
King.
Occupation
clerk
Nature of request
John Bussh states that he gave up his pursuit of the judgment he had in the court of Rome concerning his prebend in the church of York at the King's command, and on the promise that he would have another prebend in that church, and prebends in Lincoln, Salisbury and London; but that he has received nothing. He asks the King to have consideration for him, or for his nephew, John Bussh, bachelor of laws.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Coram rege.[On dorse] Coram rege.It pleases the King to be advised by the Bishop of Ely about this business, and how master John left his prebend.
Places mentioned
Rome, [Italy]
York
Lincoln, [Lincolnshire]
Salisbury, [Wiltshire]
London.
People mentioned
John de Hothom (Hotham), now Bishop of Ely
[Edward I], King of England
John Bussh (Bush), bachelor of laws, nephew of petitioner.
Note
John Hotham was Bishop of Ely between 1316 and 1337, so this petition would seem to date from 1316-1327.CPR 1313-7 p.379 is dated 16 January 1316. If the petitioner's mention of holding his prebend peacefully for six years refers to this date, the petition would seem to date from c.1322 - but it does not seem obvious that it does.
