Nature of request
John de Bekyngham of Reedness and Joan, his wife, state that John de Berteville, Joan's uncle, held certain tenements in Reedness of William de Redenesse, but that after his death Thomas de Berteville, Joan's father, was expelled from them by Henry de Lascy, formerly Earl of Lincoln. They sued to Thomas, formerly Earl of Lancaster, and he promised to do justice to them, but the lands are now in the King's hand through his forfeiture. They request a remedy.
Nature of endorsement
Coram domino rege.Faithful people are to be appointed in Chancery to inquire, in the presence etc., into the truth of the contents and other articles etc. And the inquisition is to be returned and the King is further to be informed.
