Description
Petitioners
Peter de Brumes, merchant.
Name(s)
de Brumes, Peter
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
merchant
Nature of request
Peter de Brumes, on behalf of himself and his companions, merchants of Bordeaux and Libourne, states that he has sued to the court of the King's grandfather for the last three years, to have compensation for the wine contained in two cogs taken when Henry del Hay died; and that it was awarded in the last parliament that they were to be paid by those who had received the wines, but that the late Treasurer only paid part of the sum he promised, for the wines taken for the King's use. They request repayment of the remainder by the late King's executors, and that execution might be made against certain listed people and others who received wines but have not given satisfaction to the petitioners.
Nature of endorsement
A serjeant of the King is to be ordered to summon the people named in the petition, giving the lords assigned to try petitions from Gascony a day next Wednesday; and the complainant is to be warned. On which Wednesday William Ermyn appeared and showed that he had a commission from the King to sell the aforesaid tuns; and the others defaulted. For which reason it was ordained that the others named in the petition should be summoned again on the following Friday, on pain of certain penalty.

Note
Internal evidence indicates that this must date after the death of Edward III and probably precedes the commissions of 1379 recorded in CPR 1377-81 p.416 and p.422. Like other petitions against Alice Perrers, it is most likely to date to the parliament of October 1378, on the basis of annotations on SC 8/94/4691 and SC 8/148/7363, which refer specifically to petitions against Alice in that parliament.
