Date
[c. 1381]
Description
Petitioners
William de Beverle (Beverley), canon of the free chapel of St Stephen within the palace of Westminster and prebendary of the prebend of Howth in the church of Dublin.
Name(s)
de Beverle (Beverley), William
Addressees
King and lords of parliament.
Places mentioned
Westminster
Howth, [County Dublin, Ireland]
Dublin, [County Dublin, Ireland].
Nature of request
Beverle requests remedy for the outrages committed against him by the king's ministers who have seized all of the fruits of his benefice in Ireland because of his absence, though he is fully prepared to comply with the ordinances made concerning absentees from Irish benefices.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Note
The petition is dated on the guard on the basis of an entry in the patent rolls whereby the petitioner appointed attorneys in Ireland (CPR 1381-5, p.35). This reference does not seem to have any connection with the petition, so that its evidential value for dating purposes is extremely limited, and the dating must be treated with care.
