SC 8/94/4694
Date
[1381-1382]
Description

Addressees
King and council in the present parliament.
Occupation
clerk
Nature of request
The petitioners, the feoffees of the manor of Bradwell request that the manor is returned to them, they finding sufficient surety, as it has been seized into the king's hand wrongly by the escheator, and they have been unable to recover it.
Nature of endorsement
[None].
Places mentioned
Bradwell, Essex
Coggeshall, Essex.
People mentioned
Margaret [Long], widow of Simon Long
Simon Long.
Note
The petition appears to date to 1381-1382 as entries in the patent rolls suggest that the escheat of the manor was alive issue over these years (CPR 1381-5, pp.136, 196, 199, 244). The petition seems to have failed for the king had in 1383 granted his interests in the manor of Bradwell to four individuals (not the petitioners) who had apparently been enfeoffed with it before the escheat (CPR 1381-5, pp.329, 437, 576).
