Butte requests that he and his heirs be granted denizenship as he was born in Carmarthen but has resided for many years at Bridport and wishes to reside there for his natural life.
Nature of endorsement
[On face]1) By the Chancellor, 8 February.2) Let this bill be sent to the lords.[On dorse]The petition has been referred to the Lords, and the archbishop of York and others have come together on 17 June 1437 at Westminster and heard the petition and have determined that it should be granted as the petitioner requested on condition that he did liege homage, and contributed to scot and lot like the other lieges of the king.

The petition dates to 1437 and is a petition presented to the parliament held at Westminster from 21 January of that year. This is all evident from internal evidence. The petition was minuted by the chancellor on the 8 February, and the response records that the petition was considered and answered by the council on 17 June 1437 (15 Hen. VI). The grant of denizenship was made on 16 June 1437 (CPR 1436-41, p.62).
