- The petition dates to c. 1378 as it clearly refers to the king's coronation and the first military expedition overseas after this, which refers either to the English response to French assaults on the English south coast ports, the attack on Calais, or the war in Aquitaine in 1377, or in the expeditions of 1378 (Saul, Richard II, pp.30-6).
