Name(s)
de Barton; de Barton, Emma; Steven
Addressees
Justices of the lord the king.
Nature of request
[The petition is badly damaged by gall and the sense is very difficult to discern].1) [Emma and Steven de Barton request restoration of their tenement in Berwick].2) [Illegible].1)
Nature of endorsement
Concerning the tenement in Uddynggate they say that Emma and Margery were seised in the time of King Alexander and that Margery sold it to Louedur without the assent of Emma, and now it is in the king's hand by Louedur's forfeiture, and not for another reason, and that Steven is the son and heir of Margery, and that Emma was of the king's faith and did not remise it.2) Concerning the rent they say they do not have a right.3) They should have a writ to the sheriff to deliver to each of them a moiety of the tenement if it came into the king's hand for this reason; to hold the same just as they previously held it saving the king's right.
Places mentioned
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland].
