Breton requests that the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer be ordered to make allowance for the great costs that he has incurred for the time that he was sheriff when he was ordered by the king for garrisoning Caythorpe and for maintaining a body of men during the troubles with the earl of Lancaster who threatened him by letter, as they will not allow anything without an order from the king.1)

It seems to the king that he ought to be able to have or assign men in his bailiwick by virtue of his office to ride with him and to do other things that pertain to his office without demanding wages from the king.2) Coram rege.
