Brightmerestone requests remedy as her late husband was adjudged to his penance during which he died, and the sheriff took all of his goods and chattels so that she cannot pay his debts or execute his will.1)

Because he was adjudged to his penance and died in this estate, his chattels are forfeit to the king.2) Coram magno consilio.

Note
The petition dates to 1315 because a subsequent petition by the same petitioner on the same matter was successful and she recovered her late husband's goods and chattels by mainprise in 1315(CCR 1313-18, p.182). In addition the petition must date to after 1315 as the petition refers to John de Holte being the former sheriff and his term ended on 28 April 1315 (List of sheriffs, p.152).
