Nature of request
The Botevilleyns request grace and that they are able to have the tenements in Little Waltham granted by Fitz John to Champpeneit for his life, as they are Margaret's inheritance. After Champpeneit's death his son occupied the tenements as Margaret was within age, and sold them to the Earl of Hereford. The tenements are now in the king's hand.1)

The petition clearly dates to the period 1314-1322 as the petition postdates the death of the earl of Hereford at Bannockburn, and the petition is endorsed in Latin which ceased to be the case, with very few exceptions, after 1322.
