Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/90/4490
Date
[1327]
Description
Petitioners
Nicholas de Bolevill (Boleville).
Name(s)
de Bolevill (Boleville), Nicholas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Bolevill requests remedy as Henry III granted his [? great] grandfather for his service £20 to be taken at the Exchequer, of which he and his heirs were seised of the rent until the death of William de Bolevill, and since then the heirs have been minors and the rent has not been paid. He petitioned on this and had a writ to the treasurer, but he had been instructed not to do anything on this.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege.
People mentioned
Henry III, King of England
Nicholas de Bolevill (Boleville), grandfather of the petitioner
William de Bolevill (Boleville)
Nicholas de Bolevill (Boleville), son of William de Bolevill and father of the petitioner.
Note
The petition might be thought to date to 1327 when the treasurer, barons and chamberlains of the Exchequer were ordered to make payment (CCR 1327-30, p.44). However this may not to be the case. The petition clearly refers to Henry III being the grandfather of the current king, so this must be Edward II. The petition by which the king ordered the treasurer and barons to examine the matter and do justice dates to the parliament in 12 Edward II, and must therefore date to the parliament held in October 1318, or that held in January 1319 (Docs. Illus. English History, p.35). The petition therefore dates to the period 1319-1327, and it is always possible that this petition dates to the parliament summoned in Edward II's name in 1327, and actually answered in Edward III's reign following the deposition.
