Description
Petitioners
Richard de Bolington (Bollington) of London, fishmonger.
Name(s)
de Bolington (Bollington), Richard
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
fishmonger
Nature of request
Bolington requests payment of the sums owed to him for fish bought from him for which he has bills under the seals of Hale and Romeyn.1)
Nature of endorsement
Let it be ordered to the treasurer and barons that when they have viewed the bills and searched the remembrances, if they find that the king is to pay then let justice be done, and if not then they are to summon the purveyors and do justice.2) Coram domino rege.
Places mentioned
London.
People mentioned
Henry de Hale, late keeper of the Wardrobe
Robert Romeyn, late purchaser of the king.
Note
The petition dates to the period 1318-1324 because Bolington received writs of aid for the purveyance of fish in October 1314 and again in January 1318, and Henry de Hale had certainly ceased to hold office in the Wardrobe by June 1318 (CPR 1313-17, p.194; CPR 1317-21, p.69; CCR 1313-18, p.548). The petition is quite likely to be after 1322 as it is answered in French, and it may be as late as 1324 when Bolington was paid for some debts (C 62/101, m.6.).
