Nature of request
The countess requests that she can take the £50 that were granted to her annually from Barnard Castle and which are in arrears from the customs of Newcastle and Hartlepool, and that she can be pardoned for victuals bought at Newcastle. She has nothing to live on as her lands in Northumberland are destroyed and her tenants killed, and she has no lands elsewhere.1)

Coram domino rege.2) She should show what she has of the £50 before the chancellor, and the king is to be certified.

The petition can be dated to c. 1323 as the king granted to the countess that she could take the annuity from two manors pertaining to the lordship of Barnard Castle (CCR 1323-7, p.10).
