Reference
SC 8/90/4462
Date
[? 1320-? 1324]
Description
Petitioners
Master and brothers of the order of St Thomas of Acre.
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
The master and brethren request justice is done to them as their lands in Kildare and Carrick were given to Fitz Thomas and Botiller when they were in the king's hand.1)
Nature of endorsement
He should sue in Ireland by a writ of Chancery against the tenants by the common law.2) Coram domino rege.
Places mentioned
Kildare, [County Kildare, Ireland]
Carrick-on-Suir, [County Tipperary, Ireland].
People mentioned
John Fitz Thomas
Edmund le Botiller.
Note
The petition is speculatively dated to 1320-1324 on the basis of SC 8/87/4318 which is an unconnected petition by the same petitioners dating to 1320, and on the basis of the guard dating on this petition which suggests 1324 on the basis of a patent roll reference whereby charters of the petitioners relating to Irish lands were confirmed, though this has no apparent connection to this petition (CPR 1321-4, p.422). The basis of the dating of this petition seems quite doubtful, though the petition is answered in French so is probably after 1322.
