- The petition has been dated to c. 1303 on the guard on the basis that the petition refers to the original grant made to the petitioner on the feast of St James the Apostle, 29 Edward I (25 July 1301), and the petition is some little time afterwards, but before the end of Edward I's reign. c. 1303 covers these eventualities. This date is also assigned it in Bain (Bain, vol. II, no.1429).
