Description
Petitioners
Thomas Aubray (Aubrey).
Name(s)
Aubray (Aubrey), Thomas
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Thomas Aubray states that the Bishop of St David's stole his livestock from the town of Llan-ddew in Wales, which is within the precinct of Brecon and held in chief of the King, outside any county: so that the King's writ does not run there, and no bailiff of the King enters there. He has therefore not been able to have delivery of his animals, and requests a remedy, that he might have them back.
Nature of endorsement
The Justiciar of Wales is to be ordered that, when he has called the parties before him, he is to do justice according to the custom of the country.
Places mentioned
Llan-ddew, [Breconshire], Wales
Brecon, [Breconshire], Wales.
People mentioned
The Bishop of St David's.
Note
Dated to 1293 by Rees, Petitions Relating to Wales, p. 130. The Bishop of St David's is probably Thomas Bek, who died on 14 April 1293, but might be his successor, David Martin.
