Reference
SC 8/89/4425
Date
[1318-1327]
Description
Petitioners
William de Ayremynne (Airmyn), clerk.
Name(s)
de Ayremynne (Airmyn), William
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
clerk
Nature of request
William de Ayremynne, clerk, states that the King assigned payment from the customs of Hartlepool for two debts he owed Walter de Gosewyk, but that before he received anything, William gave Walter a wardship he had bought from the King, and took the letters patent for this assignment; and he has also been assigned the marriage of John, son and heir of John de Loudeham. The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are refusing to make allowance or payment on these letters, because no mention is made of who received these monies from Walter; William asks the King to command his grace on the matter.
Nature of endorsement
[On SC 8/89/4426] Coram rege.[On this petition] The Treasurer and Barons of the Exchequer are to be ordered that, when they have searched the rolls and remembrances of the Exchequer, and other remembrances touching the said matter, and when they have called before them those who are to be called, they are to settle with him in due manner for what is in arrears, either by payment or by assignment.
Places mentioned
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland]
Hartlepool, [County Durham].
People mentioned
Walter de Gosewyk, burgess of Berwick upon Tweed
Roger de Moubray
John de Sandale, Chancellor of England
Walter de Norwicz (Norwich), Treasurer of England
John de Loudeham (Lowdham)
John [de Loudeham (Lowdham)], son and heir of John de Lowdham.
Note
John de Sandale was Chancellor between September 1314 and June 1318, and Walter de Norwicz was Treasurer between September 1314 and May 1317; the exchange of the assignment for the wardship took place during this period, but the petition suggests that neither is now in office. It must therefore date from between 1318 and 1327.
