Fitz Amye, Maud
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Maud, widow of William Fitz Amye, requests the aid of the King and council because the Bailiffs of the franchise have taken her goods and wish to arrest her, because she killed a thief who had killed her sheep and, she claims, would have killed her. The name of the thief is given as Denise Ketel.
Nature of endorsement
Coram rege. She is to surrender herself to prison, and if the inquisition finds in her favour, she is to sue to the King to have his grace.
People mentioned

Note
The writ for the inquisition (CIM 1307-49 no. 738) is dated 10 January 17 Edward II [1324], and the crime is said to have taken place on the Wednesday in Passion week 16 Edward II [1323]. The petition can therefore be dated to 1323-1324, more probably to 1323, as CIM 1307-49 no.738 says that Maud immediately journeyed to court to seek the King's peace.
