Description
Petitioners
John Akreman, draper of Bruges.
Name(s)
Akreman, John
Addressees
King and council.
Occupation
draper of Bruges
Nature of request
John Akreman states that he was attached by his body and all his goods in Norwich on St Lawrence's day last [10 August], because he was acquainted with Thomas Roscelyn, and was imprisoned at Windsor on the command of Queen Isabella and Roger de Mortimer, contrary to the protection given to him by the King at Eltham on 4 February in the fourth year of his reign [1330]. He asks that he might be released.
Nature of endorsement
The Constable is to be ordered to inform the council in parliament of the reason why he was captured and held. And then, when the reasons have been examined before the council, coram rege (before the King). It is appropriate for him to remain in prison for a certain reason. And it was then agreed by the King and his council that he would be sent from Windsor to Norwich, and the Bailiffs of Norwich are to be ordered to receive him and to have him safely kept, so that they can answer for his body at the King's command.
Places mentioned

Norwich, [Norfolk]
Windsor, [Berkshire]
Eltham, [Kent].
People mentioned

Note
CPR 1327-30 p.573 is dated 12 August 1330 and must follow the petitioner's arrest on St Lawrence's day (10 August). As this petition must have been submitted before 10 August 1331, as it was clearly presented to parliament, and as it does not scruple to lay the blame for his imprisonment on the Queen and Roger Mortimer, and as the order to send him to Norwich (CCR 1330-3 p. 183) is dated 24 January 1331, it must have been presented to the parliament of November 1330.
