Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/89/4406
Date
[? 1428]
Description
Petitioners
None specified.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The petition notes that the provisions made in the parliament of 1 Henry VI, for the Duke of Bedford and, in his absence, the Duke of Gloucester, to be appointed Protector of England, and for the confirmation of all annuities etc. granted by Henry V, do not apply to the Duchy of Lancaster, and asks that all confirmations of annuities hitherto made under the seal of the Duchy by letters of warrant under the seals of the Dukes of Bedford or Gloucester directed to the Chancellor of the Duchy, should henceforth be considered valid.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] By the Treasurer of England. 16 March.[None on dorse]
Places mentioned
Westminster
Duchy of Lancaster.
People mentioned
John [of Lancaster], Duke of Bedford
Humphrey [of Lancaster], Duke of Gloucester
[Henry V], King of England.
Note
From the reference to the parliament of 1 Henry VI, this petition must date from after 1423. A note on the guard dates it more closely to '? 1428' without explanation. The date in March in the top left-hand corner of the face would suggest either 1428 or 1426 as the date.
