Nature of request
John Asteley states that in the twentieth year of his reign the King granted him an annual income of 100 marks to sustain the order of knighthood to which he had raised him. This was resumed in an act of resumption in the King's twenty-ninth year, and replaced by an annual grant of £11 made in the King's thirtieth year. He asks that this grant might be exempted from the current act of resumption, in the terms set out in his petition.
Nature of endorsement
The King, with the advice of the lords spiritual and temporal in the parliament chamber at Westminster, in consideration of the fact that John Asteley's mother was his nurse, and that John performed certain feats of arms in his presence at Smithfield, for which the King knighted him and gave him 100 marks for term of life, and that 40 marks of this was taken from him at the last act of resumption, and because he has no other means of supporting himself or his estate of knight, wills that he be provided for as is desired by this bill.
