Date
[? c. 1294]
Description
Petitioners
Arnold William (Arnaud Guillem (Guilhem)) of Andoins, called the Count of Andoins.
Name(s)
William (Arnaud Guillem (Guilhem)), Arnold
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
Arnold William of Andoins, called the Count of Andoins, makes two requests:1) He states that when he came to England to pursue his business, the King gave him, at his request, the lands and tenements that belonged to Menaud Fraygnol, to hold at pleasure, Gaillard Pigour, the King's Bailiff of Seynt Quytere, would give him only the house. He requests a letter of grace to have the whole land.2) He also states that he entered the Order of St John in order to serve the King overseas, but that since he did so, there has been no expedition. He requests a letter of request from the King to the provincial prior, to aid him in his business, so that he can serve honourably as he ought.
Nature of endorsement
He is to have a writ to have a letter of request to the prior as he asks. And for the rest, he is to put up with it for the present.
Places mentioned
Audenge (Andoins), [Bearn, France]
Seynt Quytere [unidentified], [France].
People mentioned
Menaud Fraygnol
Gaillard de Chastel Pugor (Castetpugon), Bailiff of Seynt Quytere.
Note
Dated on the guard to c. 1305. However, 8 April 1305 is the date of Roles Gascons, vol.III no.4776, when the petitioner would appear to be already dead. His name appears in Roles Gascons, vol.III no.3382 (number 92), which is dated 1294, so a tentative date of c. 1294 is suggested. Gaillard de Chastel Pugor also features in this list.
