- The Abbot and convent of Abingdon state that the commons of Abingdon and the vicar of the church of St Helen there have sued in the court of Rome to have a cemetery on certain land held of the Abbot in Abingdon, rather than burying their dead in the Abbey's cemetery as they should, and that the commons of the town have made conspiracies and alliances amongst themselves, and have threatened those wishing burial in the Abbey's cemetery. They request a remedy, to put down such riotous behaviour, to maintain the Abbot and convent in their rights, and to prevent temporal land becoming spiritual land.

Note (Additional information about the record)
- The related SC 8/21/1042 can be assigned fairly reliably to the parliament held at Westminster in November 1391. This petition would seem to date from around the same time, possibly slightly earlier, as it does not mention the land being seized into the King's hand. CPR 1388-92 p.478, too, dated 5 August 1391, would seem to suggest a slightly earlier date for this petition.
