Nature of request
Isabel Abel states that she has pursued her right for ten years and more, and that in the course of this she has been imprisoned fifteen times by procurement of her adversaries and of Henry de Sydenhale, and often been beaten and wounded, and had her writs and letters from the King stolen. And now, in Winchester, in Hyde Abbey church, she was beaten and wounded again, and her writs and letters stolen, by a Chancery clerk, kinsman to her adversary and others, so that she can have no remedy at law. She asks that a loyal, incorruptible man might be ordered to oversee the wrong done to her and to aid and maintain her in her right until her suit is done.
