[? c. 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Foresters of Allerdale in Cumberland.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The foresters of Allerdale in Cumberland state that the King's father gave four foresters in Allerdale incomes in lieu of pensions, but that as a result of the perambulation they have received nothing for six years, and their fees have been destroyed by the Keeper. They request a writ to the Keeper to inquire into the withholding of their puture, as the King granted them a writ to John de Cromwelle in his last parliament at York, which was not put into execution because of the death of Cromwell's lieutenant. And they ask that they might have the same fee and puture that was in use in the time of Earl Waltheof, and that they might have an inquiry into this by the same writ.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Richard Champion; Roger Bruele.[On dorse] They are to have a writ to inquire and inform as before.
Places mentioned
Allerdale, Cumberland
[Forest of] Inglewood, Cumberland
York.
People mentioned
[Edward I], King of England
John de Cromwelle (Cromwell)
John de Loyville, Lieutenant of John de Cromwelle
Alan [de Dunbar], son of Earl Waltheof
Earl Waltheof [de Dunbar]
Richard Champion
Roger Bruele.
Note
Dated on the guard to '? c.1319' with reference to the parliament at York. But if the previous petition (SC 8/88/4369?) was presented to the parliament at York, then it was probably presented to the parliament of May 1319, so this one would seem to date from c. 1320.
