Description
Petitioners
John de Westone (Weston).
Name(s)
de Westone (Weston), John
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
John de Westone makes four requests:1) He requests the king's letters to the executors of the testament of the Bishop of Winchester, to pay him the debt the Bishop owes him.2) He states that he has long served the king and his father, and lost all his rents and lands in that service; and he requests some sustenance.3) He asks specifically for the keeping of one of the king's manors, perhaps Langley Marish or Shipham, or one of the king's castles, paying for it what others have paid or what they should pay, so that he, and his wife, children and household, can live there until, by the king's good lordship, he has recovered his lands, fees and rents in Scotland.4) He asks for payment or assignment for the debt that the king owes him, for as great a sum as pleases the king.
Nature of endorsement
[On face, each answer written below the relevant petition. To the first:] He is to have a writ in Chancery, and nevertheless he is to have a letter to ask the executors to pay him, after the king has been fully paid what is due to him.[No response to the second.][To third] He is to think of other things, and the king will speak his will on it.[To fourth] He is to account at the Exchequer, and if it is found that the king owes him money, the king will speak his will on it.[On dorse] Coram rege.Answered before the king and his council.
