Reference
SC 8/87/4304
Date
[? 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Peter Moles of Catalonia.
Name(s)
Moles, Peter
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Peter Moles of Catalonia states that he was sent by the late King to Flanders to buy a mast for a ship, which is now at Sandwich in the keeping of Peter Barde. The petitioner paid for this himself, and asks that he might have delivery either of the mast or of the money.
Nature of endorsement
Because it is attested before the council by Peter Barde that the mast is in his keeping, and that Peter Moles bought it in Flanders, and that it cost £45 when first bought, as he understands, and that Peter Moles was never paid anything, it seems to the council, if it please the King, that Peter de Moles should have restitution of the mast or of its price.
Places mentioned
Catalonia, [Spain]
Flanders
Sandwich, [Kent].
People mentioned
[Edward I], King of England
Peter Barde.
Note
CPR 1327-30 p.13 mentions a pardon granted to a Peter Moles in February 1327, and the reference to the late king might suggest a date at the beginning of Edward III's reign, but many other petitions in this file seem to belong to the Michaelmas parliament of 1320, and therefore seems perhaps more likely that this one does too, and that the petitioner is suing for the long-overdue payment for a mast bought for Edward I.
