[Part of the left-hand side of this petition is missing, which makes it hard to tell the exact sense] Pons de Vares, Lord of Montferrand-en-Bordelais, makes three requests:1) He requests some compensation for his losses in the war.2) He states that the King owes him money for wages and provisions, from when he was Provost of Entre-deux-mers, and that he owes money to the King for this bailiwick. He asks that the sum he owes the King might be reduced by the amount owed him for wages and provisions, or that some other suitable payment might be made him.3) He asks that he might hold the bailiwick of Entre-deux-mers, which he previously held at farm, in some more secure way.
Nature of endorsement
[On face] Pons de Vares owes the King £625 of Bigorre for the bailiwick of Entre-deux-mers.[On dorse] With regard to his debts, he is to show his letters to John de Sandale and Thomas de Cant', and when they have been returned to him, he is to have letters under the King's great seal for the issuing of another writ of the King to give him an assignment for his pay.With regard to the other, the King will give him of his grace £1000 of Bigorre.With regard to the £625 of Bigorre that he owes the King for the bailiwick of Entre-deux-mers, the Constable of Bordeaux is to be ordered to allow them to him in the debt that the King owes him.
