Nature of request
William Smalwode states that although he seized six ships with merchandise, belonging to the King's Spanish enemies, at sea on 13 June in the King's forty-third year, the ships and merchandise were delivered to Reginald Love on 12 September in the same year, because he falsely claimed to have lost a ship, stolen by the Spaniards, and because of claims of other ships lost by people from Bristol. He asks that Reginald might answer on this in parliament.

The ships were seized on 13 June, 43 Edward III (1369), CCR 1369-74 p.30 (the order to appraise them) is dated 15 June 1369, and they were delivered to Reginald Love on 12 September in the same year. The petition must date from shortly after this.
