Note
A note on the guard reads 'Pur lez gardeinz del pount du Roucestre qils puissant purchaser terres et tenementz a la value de cc li.', suggesting that this was once attached to SC 8/86/4255. However, it does not seem to relate closely to that petition, but to be very like the record of how the various towns, vills and other places of Kent were responsible for the upkeep of the old bridge said to be attached to SC 8/86/4254: which raises the possibility that these two petitions were presented together. A heading on the identical SC 8/85/4234 suggests that it is taken from Domesday.
