Eleanor, wife of John Hille of Oxfordshire asks the commons to ask the Duke of Gloucester and other lords to ask the King to grant that she might be a denizen within the realm, and treated and considered as the King's liege, as, although she was born in Portugal, she has lived here since she was six in the company of the Countess of Arundel.

[On face] Let it be sent to the lords.[On dorse] It is to be done as is desired, for a reasonable fine to be made for this in Chancery.

Note
From the reference to the Duke of Gloucester, this would seem to date from the early years of the reign of Henry VI - see SC 8/85/4224, SC 8/85/4230, SC 8/85/4242 and SC 8/86/4269 for other similar petitions from around this period (4224, 4230 and 4242 with similar endorsements). Beatrice, wife of Thomas FitzAlan (d.1415), was an illegitimate daughter of John I, king of Portugal.
