Nature of request
Alard Funk, tailor and citizen of London, states that when Piers Mayn Henrikson, a Dutchman imprisoned in the Fleet prison and brought into court in Chancery in the term of St John in the King's thirteenth year, managed to escape from prison to the sanctuary at Westminster, William Venour, warden of the Fleet prison, brought an action of trespass against Alard, as he had known the prisoner before, although he was innocent of his escape. However, he was condemned by a jury favourable to the warden, and has himself now been in prison for a year and a half. He asks the King, with the advice of the lords in parliament, to have both the parties examined, so that he might have justice and be released from prison.
