Description
Petitioners
Hugh Fastolf and John Fastolf his brother.
Name(s)
Fastolf; Fastolf, Hugh; John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Hugh Fastolf and his brother John state that Hugh is bound in Chancery to a recognisance of 600 marks for a ship of Barcelona, and for the goods and merchandise contained in that ship, on condition that if the ship's master and the merchants who own the goods and merchandise are not found to be the king's enemies, the recognisance would be void. He asks that the record might be examined and that he might be discharged, as the master and merchants are not, and never have been, the king's enemies.
Nature of endorsement
Because it was attested in parliament that the said ship, with the goods and merchandise and the people found in the said ship, are of the lordship and allegiance of the King of Aragon, who is the friend of the king and of his realm of England, it is assented that the said recognisance is to be cancelled and completely annulled; and a writ is to be issued on this to the Exchequer to discharge the said Hugh and John of the aforesaid sum.
Places mentioned
Barcelona, [Spain]
Aragon [Spain].
People mentioned
Raymond (Ramón) Sorbere, ship's master
[Peter IV], King of Aragon.
Note
CCR 1377-81 pp.492-493 is dated 24 January 1381, and would seem to be the result of this petition. However, the mention of parliament would suggest that the petition was delivered to the parliament of November 1380.
