SC 8/85/4212
Date

Description
Petitioners
Henry Bowet, Archbishop of York.
Name(s)
Bowet, Henry
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Gascony, [France].
Nature of request
Henry, Archbishop of York, states that, because of certain faults in Gascony, he cannot have execution of certain obligations owed to him and to another in England without the king's aid. He asks that these obligations and faults might be tried and examined before the Chancellor of England or before the King's council.
Nature of endorsement
The king, with the advice and assent of the lords spiritual and temporal in parliament, wills that this petition be sent to Chancery, and that the obligations and matters contained in the same petition be committed, by authority of parliament, to the Chancellor of England for the time being, to be tried and determined there, and to do about this what seems best to them in the case, by the aforesaid authority.
Note
CPR 1413-16 pp.115 is dated 20 July 1413, and p.223 is dated 26 June 1414. As there are references to conditions and contracts that should have been fulfilled at Bordeaux, it would seem that these are likely to be the matters referred to in the petition, which should then be dated to the parliament of May 1413.
