Nature of request
Nicholas, Abbot of Westminster, states that Edward the Confessor gave the church of Westminster the manor of Deerhurst in Gloucestershire, with its appurtenances including the wood and vill of Corse, and that this gift has been confirmed by kings, including the present king, and popes, but that because game has strayed out of the chase of Malvern into this wood, the lords of Malvern have usurped the wood, and the Abbey's rights there, to themselves, taking distraints and redemptions from malefactors in the wood, and preventing the Abbot from having his profit there. The Abbot therefore asks that his evidence for his rights might be seen and examined, the distraints rectified, and the Abbot able to have his profit from the wood.
