Nature of request
Elizabeth, widow of Lord le Despenser, states that her late husband and his ancestors have from time immemorial had a chase at Corse in Gloucestershire, so that no-one who had a wood there had the right to hunt, or to cut down and sell wood, without their permission, the Abbot of Westminster is now claiming the right to do so. She asks the king and council to maintain the right of the heir, currently in the king's wardship, and requests that no determination should be had on any bill touching the chase, which might be delivered into parliament by the Abbot, before consulting the king.

Dated on the guard to 1377-86, with reference to the minority of Thomas, Lord Despenser (Edward le Despenser died in 1375, but see CFR 1377-83 p.46, for the commitment to the petitioner of her late husband's lands and tenements during the heir's minority, dated 12 December 1377), and to the death of Nicholas Litlyngtone, Abbot of Westminster (see SC 8/85/4206, and also CPR 1385-9 p.245, dated 12 December 1386, for permission to the prior and convent of Westminster to elect a new abbot after his death). Further dated to '? 1385', with reference to SC 8/85/4206, SC 8/106/5275, and SC 8/107/5316, which last can be dated to 1383-4.
