Full description and record details

Reference
SC 8/84/4190
Date
[c. 1384]
Description
Petitioners
John Cavendyssh (Cavendish) of London.
Name(s)
Cavendyssh (Cavendish), John
Addressees
King and council.
Places mentioned
London
Scotland
Berwick-upon-Tweed, [Northumberland].
Nature of request
Cavendyssh requests a pardon of the customs and subsidies levied on victuals taken to Berwick because it is within the king's allegiance and power, and nothing has been paid on them in the past, and he requests that the barons of the Exchequer be ordered to discharge him of the same.
Nature of endorsement
He should sue to the council and they will provide a remedy at their discretion.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1384 because the petition itself refers to a statute made in the 7th year of the king's reign, thus placing it in 1383-4, and the petition is unlikely to postdate this by long. In addition, a not written in the dorse dates this to 8 Richard II.
