Reference
SC 8/84/4161
Date
[? 1324]
Description
Petitioners
Villeins of the commote of Eifionydd.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The villeins request a grant of the mill and weirs at farm, rendering at the Caernarfon Exchequer the same as other farmers, as the farmers have inflicted great hardship so that they find it difficult to hold their land.
Nature of endorsement
They should sue to the justice when he comes to the country and show him that this is to the king's profit; and he will have advice on this, and let the justice be so ordered on this.
Places mentioned
Eifionydd commote, [Caernarfonshire, Wales].
Note
The petition has been dated by Rees to 1324 on the basis of an entry in chancery warrants which though relating to these tenants and the mill, do not seem to be in response to the petition (CCW 1244-1326, p.557). This dating should be treated with caution.
