Date
[c. 1331]
Description
Petitioners
John de Crumbewell (Cromwell), king's bachelor.
Name(s)
de Crumbewell (Cromwell), John
Addressees
King and council.
Nature of request
Crumbewell requests a commission to the justice of Chester to carry out the partition of the manor of Hope, as Crumbewell was granted the manor by the king, but the other parceners of the manor have caused great waste by destruction, purprises and assarts because the manor was not partitioned between the king and them. Crumbewell has sued to the justice for an inquisition, and this found that it was to no one's damage for this partition to take place.
Nature of endorsement
The king wishes to have counsel with the justice of Chester of the things contained in this petition, and will then do what ought to be done.
Places mentioned
Hope, Flintshire, [Wales].
People mentioned
Justice of Chester.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1331 as the inquisition ad quod dampnum referred to in the petition was made in 5 Edward III, and the petition is unlikely to be much later (C 143/214/11).
