Nature of request
Hayward requests remedy as the mayor and other burgesses of Berwick are obliged to him in 80 marks by a recognizance for passage, pesage and tronage in Berwick which amounts to 300 marks before the town fell, but he has been unable to have a writ from the English Chancery for the debt to be met from the goods of the burgesses wherever they are in England.1)

It is necessary that this remain until something can be ordained.2) Coram magno consilio.

The petition dates to c. 1320 as it clearly follows the fall of Berwick in 1318, and based on the dating of many of the other petitions in this file, 1320 is about the right date.
