Reference
SC 8/82/4096
Date
[c. 1320]
Description
Petitioners
Louis de Beaumont, Bishop of Durham.
Name(s)
de Beaumont, Louis
Addressees
King.
Places mentioned
Durham, [County Durham]
London.
Nature of request
Beaumont requests that the keepers of the Mint at the Tower of London be ordered to deliver the three upper punches [trusseux] for minting coins that they detain until the king will order otherwise. They were granted the three punches for minting money at Durham.
Nature of endorsement
The king has granted this until Easter next, and for the year next following.
Note
The petition dates to c. 1320, as the original grant to the bishop was made on 20 November 1320. The petition would seem to be a little later as it seems to refer to problems in obtaining the three stamps following this grant, rather than requesting the grant itself.
