Nature of request
The clergy request that the tenth granted to the king by the pope be levied according to the last taxation, because the bishopric has been destroyed and impoverished by the coming of the Scots, and the clergy are unable to raise such sums from their benefices according to the other assessment.1)
Nature of endorsement
The king has granted at this time that the tenth be given according to the new taxation saving his right at other times.2) Coram rege.

The petition appears to date to 1320, probably postdating an order to the bishop of Durham on a related matter (CCR 1318-23, p.69).
