Reference
SC 8/82/4093
Date
[? c. 1319]
Description
Petitioners
Monks of the church of St Martin, Dover.
Addressees
King.
Nature of request
The monks request that the king take to him the chancellor, treasurer and his other justices and demand of them what he has found of their right, and do justice to them concerning their suit that has been long delayed.
Nature of endorsement
The King has assigned certain men to hear the things contained in this petition and to bring it to him.
Places mentioned
Dover, [Kent].
Note
On 3 June 1319 Edward II granted custody of St Martins to the sub-prior, reciting the terms of a judgment made under Edward I and the resumption of the advowson from Holy Trinity, Canterbury. This was part of a long-running dispute (see the numerous other petitions on this matter), and it seems likely that this petition formed part of this, and may have been the petition which led to the appointment being made.
