The mayor and commonalty request that the lieutenant justice be ordered to give them speedy remedy according to the law as they are attacked and robbed by the people of the marches when they leave the city for business or to sell for the sustenance of the city. They are also given to understand by warnings from many people that the Scots are coming towards their parts with great strength.

The petition dates to 1321 as the earl of Kildare was deputy justice from September 1320 to 30 June 1321, and justiciar from 30 June 1321 to 1 October 1321 (Sayles, Affairs, pp.105-6). The date in the last line is therefore 7 October 1321.
